"He will take out his pliers!" said Slide. That snake in the grass! Always the first to think of the worst! She smiled. "He will pull off your skin!"

"Oh! Oh!" said Slither. "I'm not going. No way!"

"But your skin is loose." said Slide. "And it itches."

"What skin?" said Slither.

They arrived at the doctor's office. Horror of horrors. The sign read "Dr. Yankit".

"What a name!" said Slide. "Just the doctor to yank at your skin!"

Slither shivered. It would feel good to be brave. To swish his snaky tail. But his tail wouldn't swish. Wouldn't swither. It went limp. It withered.

There was no doctor in sight. Just coats and chairs. And a nurse on the phone.

"What a shame," said Slither. "Dr. Yankit's not here!" Slither started for the door.

"Wait," cried the nurse. "Don't you worry. Not one bit. Dr.Yankit is here!"

"Oh, great," said Slither. "What a relief!" He glared at the nurse.

"Look," said Slide. "They have the new Wood Berry Tale! It's about snakes! Slide was pleased as punch. She didn't have loose skin. She didn't have to see Dr. Yankit. She was just there on a lark.

But Slither . . . . Slither . . . .

Where was Slither? . . .
