    CAN I PRINT MY CARD?

Yes (see copyright info below), but it will not look the same as your card on the computer. Here's why.

PICTURES: TRADEOFFS BETWEEN ONLINE SPEED AND PRINT QUALITY
Pictures are made up of tiny dots. In a space about the size of a stamp, a computer screen uses 72 dots for a good looking picture. But a printer needs 300 or more dots. These dots are called "dots per inch". Or "dpi", for short.

We make our gif animations with 72 dots per inch. Why? Because it takes 9 times longer to see a picture with 300 dots. That's 9 minutes instead of a minute, for example. A long wait, right?

We want you to be able to make cards fast. But the result is that pictures will not print very well.

    SIZE OF PICTURES
The size of a picture also affects the file size and therefore the amount of time it takes for you to see (download) it online. Therefore we keep our pictures relatively small.

    PRINTING ANIMATIONS
Depending on your Internet browsing software, you will see either the first or the last frame on animated images.

    WHEN BACKGROUNDS DON'T PRINT
On your screen, you may see the background colors that we put on our cards. But you won't see the backgrounds on paper unless you have selected the option to print background colors in the Settings or Preferences or Internet Options menu of your Internet browser software (Internet Explorer or Netscape).

ADJUSTING THE COLOR OF THE TEXT IN YOUR CARD
Suppose you receive a card that has white print on a black background? The best way to print is probably to select the option to print background colors in the Settings or Preferences or Internet Options menu of your Internet browser software (Internet Explorer or Netscape).

Or with some WWW browsers, you can convert the text to black. Here is how: WWW browsers (the software you use to view the Web) interpret the codes on Web pages differently, including colors. With some Web browsers you can adjust the color of the fonts shown on any page you are viewing. You can also adjust the color of the Background so you can see the text after you have changed it, but remember that Background colors on WWW pages do not print unless that option is also selected.
After printing, go back and remove the color options so that you can view WWW pages as they are again, rather than overriding the colors.

ADJUSTING THE SIZE OF THE TEXT IN YOUR CARD
WWW browsers (the software you use to view the Web) interpret the codes on Web pages differently, including font sizes. With some Web browsers you can adjust the size of the fonts shown on any page you are viewing.

    HOW TO PRINT

    1. You use the PRINT command on your WWW BROWSER (the software on your own computer which you are using to view the Web) to print WWW pages.
    2. First, be sure your printer is connected. And turned on. And has paper.
    3. Look up at the top of your screen for a list of words that run across the top.
That is, the "menu" on your browser window.
    4. Look for the word FILE. (The menu terms on your own WWW browser may differ.)
    5. Click it and look for the word PRINT.
    6. Click it and a small print dialogue bo will appear.
    7. Click OK in the box. Or hit the ENTER button on your keyboard.
Or follow your normal procedures for your printer.
    8. Wait for a short time. It may take a few seconds before your printer starts to print.
    9. What I don't see PRINT under the FILE menu? Click on each word along the menu and look at the list that drops down. When you find PRINT, click it.
    10. What if my printer prints as soon as I click print? Some will. And that works also.
    11. What if I want the words on my card to be bigger or smaller? Or a different color? On some browsers, you can adjust the size and color of print. See description on how to do this above.
