Printing Cyber Cards!

WANT TO PRINT? HERE IS HOW!

You use the PRINT command on your WWW BROWSER to print WWW pages.

KIDS, you might want to ask someone to help you print.

    Can I print my card?

Yes, but it will not look the same as your card on the computer. Here's why.

  1. PICTURES
Pictures are made up of tiny dots. In a space about the size of a stamp, a computer screen uses 72 dots for a good looking picture. But a printer needs 300 or more dots!

These dots are called "dots per inch". Or "dpi", for short.

We make our pictures with 72 dots per inch. Why? Because it takes 9 times longer to see a picture with 300 dots. That's 9 minutes instead of a minute, for example! A long wait, right?

We want you to be able to make cards fast. But the result is that pictures will not print very well.

  2. BACKGOUNDS
On your screen, you may see the background colors that we put on our cards. Or background images. Some WWW browsers show backgrnounds and some don't. And they don't show them the same!

But you won't see the backgrounds on paper. Why? Because WWW backgrounds don't print!

How do you find the print command? And print?

  1. First, be sure your printer is connected. And turned on. And has paper.

  2. Look up at the top of your screen for a list of words that run across the top.
That is, the "menu" on your browser window.

  3. Look for the word FILE.

  4. Click it and look for the word PRINT.

  5. Click it and a small box will appear. It is called a print dialogue box.

  6. Click OK in the box. Or hit the ENTER button on your keyboard.
Or follow your normal procedures for your printer.

  7. Wait for a short time. It may take a few seconds before your printer starts to print.

What I don't see PRINT under the FILE menu?

Click on each word along the menu and look at the list that drops down. When you find PRINT, click it.

What if my printer prints as soon as I click print?

Some will. And that works also.

What if I want the words on my card to be bigger or smaller? Or a different color?

On some browsers, you can adjust the size and color of print.

Go to our CARD TIPSsite for adults at Awesome Cyber Cards to learn how.

You are welcome to print your Awesome Cyber Card, but PRINT QUALITY IS LIMITED because graphics are at 72 dpi for good viewing quality at fast speeds. (A 300 dpi image file, needed for good printing, would take 9 times longer to view.) Also please note that Backgrounds on WWW pages do not print.

If you have been here before, click the RELOAD button. So you can see what is new! RELOAD is probably in the VIEW or WWW menu on your WWW browser.
